Applied Sciences& Humanities Department, as both integral and
significant part of every engineering instituteprovides knowledge and skills in
fundamental subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English as well as
Personality Development to the new entrants of institute. The department plays
dual role in shaping the career of students - not only of building strong
foundation for Diploma entrants by providing them the basic essential knowledge
of core subjects but also that of cultivating their soft skills and lifelong
learning attitude.
Applied Sciences& Humanities Department at Government
Polytechnic, Dahod is equipped with Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab and Language Lab
coordinated by well-qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic regular faculties. The
main objective of the department is to provide learner-centered environment by
innovative and outcome based practices and develop scientific approach and
instill life skills to sustain in the industry and to cater the needs of the
society.
Chemistry Laboratory of the department is well located with an
airy and spacious hall on the ground floor and ensures safety while training
students in various practicals of the subject. Having adequate water supply,
the laboratory is well equipped with available instruments other than the usual
glassware & chemicals as per GTU syllabus. Various experiments like Volumetric
Analysis, Redox Titration, pH-Measurement, Determination of alkalinity of given
sample of water, Corrosion measurement in different mediums and metals, Coal
Analysis, Measurement of viscosity etc.
are explained to and performed by the
target-students (Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering).
Physics Laboratory of the department is
designed in a way to include experiments of various areas of physics such as
various measuring instruments, properties of materials, basic
electric circuit and optics etc. The laboratory is
equipped with good number of instruments. Virtual lab and simulation based
experiments have also been introduced. Lab on smart phone is encouraging for simulation based experiments. The main purpose of this laboratory is to
give knowledge and experience to students for developing experimental skills
and exposing them to modern techniques.
Language lab of the department is both spacious
and well equipped with 16 computers, an Over Head Projector, a printer, headphones,
language-learning software, web-resources, and charts on various topics of
English language, communication, and soft skills. Students can have access to
audio-video and visual teaching-learning aids that help enhance their English
language skills. An effort is made to improve LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading,
and Writing) skills of students by involving them in pair work, group work and
role play which helps them build up confidence to use English in communication.
Students are guided to improve
their grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, stress and intonation, fluency,
communication skills, presentation skills, group discussion, interview skills
and soft skills.
